Pelvic Pain: Test and Diagnosis

1st order laboratory parameters – obligatory laboratory tests.

  • Small blood count
  • Inflammatory parameters – CRP (C-reactive protein) or PCT (procalcitonin).
  • Urine status (rapid test for: pH, leukocytes, nitrite, protein, glucose, ketone, urobilinogen, bilirubin, blood), sediment, if necessary urine culture (pathogen detection and resistogram, that is, testing suitable antibiotics for sensitivity / resistance).

Laboratory parameters 2nd order – depending on the results of the history, physical examination, etc. – for differential diagnostic clarification.

  • Phase contrast microscopy of vaginal secretions – live, unstained cells appear extremely low contrast in the normal bright field microscope, these are well visualized by the phase contrast method.
  • Pap smear from the cervix (if necessary, thin-layer cytology).
  • Pregnancy test (quantitative HCG).
  • Test for occult (not visible) blood in the stool.
