Pencil case / pencil case – What to look out for?

A well-filled pencil case, which contains all the utensils needed in primary school, gives the child a good start in school. Pencil cases, which have a separate place for each pen, are particularly recommended so that the child always has an overview of his or her materials. A special role in the pencil case is played by the fountain pen, with which the pupils learn to write.

There is a wide range of pens available, especially the pens with an insensitive nib and a recessed grip (three-point grip) are suitable for learning to write, so that the students can learn the correct grip. This includes ink cartridges in the pencil case for refilling, most schools expect a blue ink. In addition, a pencil should also be included in each pencil case, as it is often needed for drawing and sketching.

As a rule, the pencil should have a medium hardness (for example HB). When buying a pencil, you should pay attention to the quality of the pencil so that the pencils can be sharpened well, the lead does not break quickly and the pencil does not smear on the paper. The pencil includes a sharpener and an eraser.

You can buy everything from the same brand to ensure that the eraser erases the pencil perfectly without damaging the paper or leaving marks. We also recommend an eraser that is adapted to the hardness of the pencil. In addition to the pencil, the students also use other pencils that need to be sharpened in the sharpener, so it is worthwhile for the child to buy a sharpener in two sizes, for thin and thick pencils.

Particularly practical are sharpeners with a container for the “sharpener dung”, which can be emptied by the child independently over the waste. As already mentioned, the pupils also need other pencils, these are coloured pencils. For primary school children, thick coloured pencils made of wood in all colours are best suited.

Only in rare cases are felt-tip pens obligatory in primary school. Similarly, ink eradicators are used, some primary schools approve of them, others reject them completely. This has to be clarified with the individual primary school or with the class teacher of the child.

Furthermore, school beginners need a ruler in their pencil case in order to draw clean lines and to be able to cross out what they have written. The ruler should have a certain stability, not be easy to break in two and have clearly legible numbers. All the materials listed above belong to the standard range of products that every child should find in his or her pencil case. If primary schools have special material requests, please let parents know in advance.
