Penile Cancer: Examination

A comprehensive clinical examination is the basis for selecting further diagnostic steps:

  • General physical examination – including blood pressure, pulse, body weight, height; further:
    • Inspection and palpation (palpation) of genitalia: penis and scrotum; assessment of penis:
      • Inspection
        • Tumor size and location [lesion?, redness?]
      • Palpation
        • Displacement or fixation
        • Infiltration of glans (glans)?, urethra (urethra)? and/or corpus cavernosum (corpus cavernosum)?
    • Palpation of the inguinal lymph nodes (inguinal lymph nodes* ) [N-stage?]
  • Health check

Note: The inguinal lymph nodes may also be enlarged inflammatory! If necessary, 4 weeks of empiric antibiotic therapy should be given.
