Penile Curvature (Penile Deviation): Medical History

The anamnesis (medical history) represents an important component in the diagnosis of penile deviation (penile curvature).

Family history

Social history

  • What is your occupation?
  • Is there any evidence of psychosocial stress or strain due to your family situation?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • When did you first notice curvature of the penis?
  • When did you first feel nodular indurations (called plaques) in the penile area?
  • Do you have a normal sexual drive?
  • Do you have trouble getting or maintaining an erection* ?

Vegetative history including nutritional history.

  • Are you overweight? Please tell us your body weight (in kg) and height (in cm).
  • Do you smoke? If so, how many cigarettes, cigars or pipes per day?
  • Do you drink alcohol? If yes, what drink(s) and how many glasses per day?
  • Do you use drugs? If yes, what drugs (amphetamines, heroin, cocaine, marijuana, methadone, synthetic drugs) and how many times a day or week?

Self-history incl. medication history.

  • Pre-existing conditions (diabetes mellitus, penile injuries, Dupuytren’s disease, Ledderhose’s disease).
