Effects
Pentamycin (ATC G01AA11) has antifungal, antibacterial, and antiparasitic properties. In fungi, the effects are due to binding to ergosterol and the formation of a complex that disturbs the osmotic balance. This leads to dissolution of the cells.
Indications
For the treatment of inflammation of the vagina (vaginitis) caused by , or mixed flora.
Dosage
According to the SmPC. The tablets are inserted into the vagina at night before bedtime for five to ten days. If necessary, the tablets can also be administered twice daily.
Contraindications
Pentamycin is contraindicated in cases of hypersensitivity. Full precautions can be found in the drug label.
Interactions
Interactions with other drugs are not known.
Adverse effects
Possible adverse effects include local reactions such as discharge, itching, burning, redness, and hypersensitivity reactions. These may also be caused in part by the disease itself.
