Peri-implantitis: Medical History

The anamnesis (medical history) represents an important component in the diagnosis of periimplantitis, in addition to the diagnostic findings.

Social history

  • Indications of psychosocial stress [stress/bruxism as a risk factor].

Current medical history / systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • What complaints do you have?
  • Where are the complaints localized?
  • Do you observe any swelling? Where?
  • To what stimuli do you show pain reactions?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • Are you drinking enough?
  • Do you suffer from sleep disturbances?
  • Do you eat a balanced diet?
  • Do you smoke? If yes, how much daily?

Self history including medication history.

  • Pre-existing conditions
    • Allergies
    • Blood diseases
    • Diabetes mellitus
    • Endocarditis risk (risk of inflammation of the inner lining of the heart (endocardium); ID).
    • Epilepsy (seizure disorder)
    • HIV infection
    • Cardiovascular disease (cardiovascular disease).
    • Organ diseases
    • Osteoporosis (bone loss)
    • Periodontal disease (diseases of the periodontium).
  • Previous complaints
  • Oral hygiene habits
  • Surgeries [with relevance to the disease].
  • Radiatio (radiotherapy)
  • Pregnancy
  • Dental pretreatment
