Perphenazine was commercially available in the form of film-coated tablets (Trilafon). It was approved in many countries in 1957 and went out of commerce on 3/31/2013.
Structure and properties
Perphenazine (C21H26ClN3OS, Mr = 403.9 g/mol) is a piperidine derivative of phenothiazine. It exists as a white to yellowish white crystalline powder that is practically insoluble in water.
Effects
Perphenazine (ATC N05AB03) has antidopaminergic, depressant, antianxiety, and antiemetic properties. The effects are due in part to antagonism at dopamine receptors.
Indications
Mental and emotional disorders, preoperative and postoperative therapy, nausea and vomiting of any cause, singultus, obstetrics, chronic pain conditions, severe pruritus.
