Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of adenoid hyperplasia/pharyngeal tonsillar hyperplasia (adenoid enlargement).

Current anamnesis/systemic anamnesis (somatic and psychological complaints).
- Is there impaired nasal breathing?
- Is the voice nasal?
- Is breathing predominantly through the mouth (mouth breathing)?
- Does snoring occur? If so, do breathing pauses occur?
- Is there persistent sniffling?
- Is there a hearing disorder?
- What is the speech development? (Problems with S/Sch and confusion of T and K).
Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.
Own anamnesis incl. medication anamnesis.
