Pharyngeal Tonsil Enlargement (Adenoid Hyperplasia): Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of adenoid hyperplasia/pharyngeal tonsillar hyperplasia (adenoid enlargement).

Social history

Current anamnesis/systemic anamnesis (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Is there impaired nasal breathing?
  • Is the voice nasal?
  • Is breathing predominantly through the mouth (mouth breathing)?
  • Does snoring occur? If so, do breathing pauses occur?
  • Is there persistent sniffling?
  • Is there a hearing disorder?
  • What is the speech development? (Problems with S/Sch and confusion of T and K).

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

Own anamnesis incl. medication anamnesis.
