Physiotherapy – alternative treatment

Some physical measures result from physiotherapy, which can be used depending on the symptoms. Comprehensive information about physiotherapy for this clinical picture can be found in the article: Physiotherapy for femoral head necrosis

  • To minimize the load on the hip joint and to provide relief, the hip joint can be mobilized by prescribing manual therapy.
  • By pulling on the joint, structures such as the capsule, ligaments and the small hip muscles near the joint are stretched. This promotes mobility and enhances the blood circulation of the hip joint.

The production of synovial fluid is also stimulated, thus improving the supply of cartilage. Further stretching and mobilization exercises for the hip can be found here.

  • The increased tone of the hip muscles can be loosened by massage.
  • Movement is also important in femoral head necrosis in order to ensure the function of the hip joint. Sports such as swimming are very well suited because the load on the hip is minimized by relieving the water.

Water gymnastics therefore offer a suitable exercise program for femoral head necrosis.

  • Kinesiotaping can be applied to the hips to support physiotherapy. Through the tape bandages, the hip receives a certain stability and through the movement of the tape bandages on the skin, the blood circulation is stimulated. The Kinesiotapes are available in different colors and can be applied individually. Since the application varies according to the target, it should be performed or demonstrated by a professional.

Operation

Due to the circulatory disorder, the supply of bone tissue is reduced and it gradually begins to die off. This means that a surgical procedure offers the possibility of transplanting a piece of bone from another part of the body into the femoral head. In addition, a vessel can be inserted to ensure the supply of the femoral head. To improve the blood supply to the bone, a femoral head drill can be performed in any case, which gives the vessels good access to the bone tissue. In a high stage of femoral head necrosis, this can be replaced by a total endoprosthesis.
