Pimples caused by sweat (heat pimples)

Especially in the summer months, when you sweat a lot and often, it often happens that small pimples form in the areas that are usually heavily covered with sweat. Mostly the forehead, the cheeks or the back are affected. The skin change, also known as heat pimples, is usually only visible until the body reduces or stops producing sweat.

The reason for these heat or sweat pimples is mainly an overproduction of sweat. When the body produces an excessive amount of sweat and releases it through the pores to the outside of the skin, the pores can become clogged. The skin that lies directly around the pores can then swell, which can generally be seen as a small lump or pimple.

These types of pimples are unlike the typical acne pimples that are not filled with pus. Sometimes a conspicuous redness can surround the pimples. In some cases, however, a slight itching may occur. The heat pimples usually disappear as quickly as they came and when the body’s sweat production has been reduced again. A separate treatment is usually not necessary.

There are some diseases associated with an abnormal secretion of sweat. If a person produces too much sweat, it is called hyperhidrosis and if too little, it is called hypohidrosis. If, on the other hand, there is no sweat at all, this is called anhidrosis. A so-called cold sweat (sweating despite cool skin) occurs as a concomitant phenomenon of some serious diseases (for example, heart attack) and should always be understood as a warning signal
