Pimples on the buttocks

Definition – What is a pustule on the buttocks?

A pus pimple is a small cavity in the skin filled with purulent secretion. In dermatology, pus pimples are counted among the so-called primary skin changes (technical term: primary florescences). Although it is generally possible that the secretion inside the pus pimple is sterile, a pus pimple on the buttocks usually has an infectious component.

A pimple on the buttocks is not just considered unsightly. Due to its location, a pimple on the buttocks can even cause severe pain. Depending on the size of the skin change, both walking and sitting can be extremely painful for those affected.

The appearance of a pus pimple on the buttocks can be observed especially in adolescents and young adults. The reason for this is usually the hormonal changes during adolescence. However, the increased occurrence of pus pimples in young people can be problematic.

Especially this group of people usually attaches great importance to their external appearance. Many young people even define themselves completely by their appearance. For this reason, skin changes can be very stressful for those affected.

This can even lead to young people suffering from pus pimples on their buttocks restricting their lives themselves and, for example, not daring to go to the swimming pool. The psyche of the affected persons can therefore also be strongly influenced by pus pimples on the buttocks. Although there are various factors that are supposed to promote the development of pus pimples, genetic predisposition seems to play a much more decisive role.

Nevertheless, both a change in eating habits, i.e. the right diet, and a change in certain habits can help to improve the appearance of the skin in the long term. Especially if a pus pimple on the buttocks occurs frequently, this can be related to poor clothing or lack of hygiene. Freely available ointments and creams, however, as they are offered in every drugstore, only rarely lead to an improvement of the skin condition.

Often the skin even seems to get worse through regular use of these products. People who frequently suffer from pus pimples on the buttocks should therefore not shy away from consulting a specialist. In most cases, only a dermatologist (skin specialist) can assess the skin condition, determine the cause of the recurrence of pimples on the buttocks and initiate effective treatment.
