Pindolol was commercially available in tablet form (Visken). It had been approved in many countries since 1969. Furthermore, a fixed combination with clopamide was available (Viskaldix).
Structure and properties
Pindolol (C14H20N2O2, Mr = 248.3 g/mol) is an indole derivative and a racemate. It exists as a white crystalline powder that is practically insoluble in water.
Effects
Pindolol (ATC C07AA03) has antihypertensive, vasodilatory, antiarrhythmic, and membrane-stabilizing properties and intrinsic sympathomimetic activity. The effects are due to unselective antagonism and partial agonism at beta-adrenoceptors.

- Hypertension
- Attack prophylaxis of angina pectoris in coronary artery disease, cardiac arrhythmias.
- Hyperkinetic heart syndrome
Dosage
According to the professional information. The tablets are taken one to three times a day, regardless of meals.
