Plague: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of plague.

Family history

  • What is the general health of your relatives?

Social history

  • What is your profession?
  • Do you have much contact with animals, especially rodents?
  • Where have you been abroad recently?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Have you noticed any lymph node enlargement(s)?
  • Is this lymph node enlargement painful?
  • Do you have a fever? If so, what is the temperature? How long has the fever been present?
  • Have you noticed a general feeling of illness in you?
  • Do you have headaches/limb pain?
  • Do you suffer from cough? Sputum? If yes, what does the sputum look like?
  • Do you suffer from shortness of breath* , accelerated breathing?
  • Do you have chest or abdominal pain* ?
  • Do you have nausea, vomiting?
