Pleurisy (Pleura Inflammation): Test and Diagnosis

Laboratory parameters of the 1st order – obligatory laboratory tests.

  • Small blood count
  • Inflammatory parameters – CRP (C-reactive protein).

Laboratory parameters 2nd order – depending on the results of the history, physical examination and obligatory laboratory parameters – for differential diagnostic clarification.

  • Serologic examination of pleural effusion (see “Pleural effusion” or “Examination of pleural effusion”).
  • Tuberculosis screening (see tuberculosis).
  • Coxsackie virus antibodies
  • Anti-smooth muscle/cardiac muscle tissue antibodies (due toDressler syndrome (synonyms: postmyocardial infarction syndrome, postcardiotomy syndrome): pericarditis and/or pleurisy (pleurisy) occurring several weeks after a myocardial infarction (heart attack) as a late immunological reaction at the pericardium after formation of heart muscle antibodies (HMA) weeks to months after a myocardial infarction or injury to the myocardium/cardiac muscle).
  • Lupus erythematosus screening (antinuclear AK (ANA), AK against extractable nuclear antigens (ENA) v. a. anti-Sm, ds DNA AK, anti-histone AK, anti-phospholipid AK).
