Pneumococcus: Or something else? Differential Diagnosis

There are numerous infectious diseases that can be caused by pneumococcus. Chief among these are:

Respiratory system (J00-J99)

Eyes and eye appendages (H00-H59).

Cardiovascular system (I00-I99)

  • Endocarditis (inflammation of the inner wall of the heart).
  • Pericarditis (inflammation of the pericardium)

Mouth, esophagus (esophagus), stomach, and intestines (K00-K67; K90-K93).

  • Appendicitis (“appendicitis”).
  • Peritonitis (“inflammation of the peritoneum”)

Ears – mastoid process (H60-H95)

  • Mastoiditis (mastoid process inflammation).
  • Otitis media (inflammation of the middle ear)

Psyche – nervous system (F00-F99; G00-G99)

  • Brain abscess – encapsulated collection of pus in the area of the brain.
  • Meningitis (meningitis)

Genitourinary system (kidneys, urinary tract – reproductive organs) (N00-N99).

    • Haemophilus influenzae
    • Moraxella catarrhalis
    • Mycoplasma
  • Viral pathogens
    • Adenoviruses
    • Human coronaviruses (OC43, 229E)
    • Influenza viruses
    • Paramyxoviruses (i. W. RS virus)
    • Picornaviruses (esp. rhinoviruses).
