Pregnancy: A New Life Begins

Childbearing, pregnancy and breastfeeding are special phases in a woman’s life

Giving birth to a new life is a beautiful and special experience in which you, as a pregnant woman, have a special responsibility. Your attention now is not only on your own body, but also on the body of your unborn child. As an expectant mother, you should therefore create the best conditions for a pleasant pregnancy and a healthy growth of the new life.

Regular ultrasound examinations help to monitor the course of pregnancy and detect any risks at an early stage. If an infection with toxoplasmosis takes place during pregnancy and the child is also infected in the womb, the consequences for the child can range from retinitis and hydrocephalus to enlargement of the liver. The toxoplasmosis test is performed with a normal blood test and, if the mother has not yet undergone an infection, should be repeated every four weeks during pregnancy to protect the child.
The triple test is a test of the mother-to-be’s blood. It is performed between the 15th and 20th week of pregnancy.
From the measured blood values, taking into account the gestational age, it can be calculated whether there is an increased risk for the unborn child to suffer from Down syndrome (trisomy 21, “mongolism”) or spina bifida (“open back”).

These and other tests are for your health and that of your unborn child. They offer you the best possible protection and ensure your baby’s healthy start to an exciting life.
