Pregnancy | Lowering of the pelvic floor and organs

Pregnancy

As already described, vaginal births are a risk factor for the development of pelvic floor prolapse. During the birth process there is a strong loosening and stretching of the tissues, which can therefore favour a lowering of the muscles. However, pelvic floor prolapse can occur not only after pregnancy but also during pregnancy.

During pregnancy there is a strong enlargement of the uterus, which can reach almost to the breastbone towards the end. This additional weight, which rests on the pelvic floor, can lead to stretching of tissue and lowering of the pelvic floor.
