Prevention

Since pain in the buttocks of many of those affected is caused by postural deformities and incorrectly executed movements, in most cases even simple measures can help to prevent such pain symptoms. To prevent pain in the buttocks from developing in the first place, precautions should be taken during everyday movements. In many patients, the pain in the buttocks can be attributed to lifting heavy objects, frequent bending and sporting activities without prior warming up.

In addition, patients who sit in front of the computer for hours on end suffer from pain in the buttocks. For this reason, such pain symptoms can be effectively prevented by changing one’s lifestyle. When lifting heavy objects, for example, care should be taken to ensure that the upper body is not tilted forward.

This leads to an enormous strain on the gluteal muscles. Heavy objects should therefore always be lifted from the knees, with the back straight and upright. People who work in the office and often sit at the computer should take short breaks every now and then to relax the muscles. In addition, simple gymnastic exercises can help to prevent pain in the buttocks caused by incorrect strain.

Pain in the buttock during pregnancy

Pain in the buttock area is not uncommon during pregnancy. In most cases, these complaints during pregnancy are caused by irritation of the sciatic nerve. Sciatica can be very uncomfortable for the patient and lead to pain that radiates from the lower back to the buttocks.

Often women even feel discomfort during pregnancy that starts in the lower back and continues into the thighs. The cause of these pain symptoms lies in the gluteal muscles themselves. Due to the increasing weight of the abdomen, the muscles of the buttocks are exposed to enormous stress.

For this reason, the gluteal muscles often increase in mass. As a result, during pregnancy, strong forces can act on the sciatic nerve and push it off. Affected women can remedy this by applying heat locally (for example with heat plasters).

In addition, targeted stretching exercises and light massages can help to relieve the pain in the back and buttocks. Another trigger for sciatica during pregnancy is the unborn child itself.Especially in advanced pregnancy, the weight of the child can press on the sciatic nerve and cause pain in the lower back and buttocks. Compression of the sciatic nerve should also be treated during pregnancy.

Otherwise, there is a risk that the acute complaints will develop into chronic pain. For this reason, women who suffer from very severe pain in the lower back and cheek during pregnancy should consult a doctor. This doctor may prescribe an anti-inflammatory medication.

However, a complete freedom from pain cannot be guaranteed despite taking these drugs during pregnancy. In the women affected, the symptoms usually disappear completely immediately after birth. Permanent damage caused by compression of the sciatic nerve can only be observed very rarely.
