Therapy recommendations

  • Therapy recommendations depend on the cause of the disease.
  • Proctitis due to bacterial infection: antibiotics.
  • Proctitis in the setting of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)/ulcerative proctitis: anti-inflammatory (anti-inflammatory) bowel therapeutics.
    • Mesalazine suppositories (alternatively, can be used as rectal foam or clysma/enema) or
    • Glucocorticoids (budenoside as rectal foam).
  • Proctitis due toa sexually transmitted infection (“sexually transmitted diseases“, STD): for therapy see under the respective disease.
  • Proctitis due to a radiatio (radiotherapy): apply topical formalin to the affected mucosa.
