Prognosis | Artificial bladder

Prognosis

The prognosis depends largely on the existing diseases and the reason for the operation. In general, a number of complications can arise after the insertion of the new bladder, which is why close monitoring by the treating physician is recommended. Infections of the urinary tract and the kidneys, so-called stenoses (occlusions) of the exit site (in pouch operations) or tumour formation on the artificial bladder may occur.

In general, however, the situation is better than before after performing a urinary diversion by inserting the artificial bladder. Patients experience only a certain reduction in quality of life and usually no reduction in life expectancy.
