Prognosis | Bone Marrow Edema

Prognosis

Despite extensive drug therapy and physiotherapy, patience is required when it comes to healing bone marrow edema. Symptoms persist for at least 4 weeks, often up to 6 months. Although longer courses of disease of 12 or 18 months are also possible, a chronification of the symptoms is not known. Whether and to what extent the bone marrow edema syndrome can be considered a preliminary stage of osteonecrosis is controversial.
