Prognosis | Epiphysiolysis capitis femoris (ECF)

Prognosis

It is important for the prognosis in the case of epiphysliolysis capitis femoris that the disease has been diagnosed and treated early. In case of an early diagnosis with appropriate surgical correction without further malpositioning, the prognosis is good and healing is therefore possible. However, if healing occurs in a malposition, there is usually a risk of early wear and tear of the hip joint (= hip joint arthrosis).

A prognostically unfavorable effect is caused by necrosis of the femoral head, which, in addition to the existing disease, also implies the clinical picture of Perthes disease. Furthermore, the occurrence of chondrolysis (= hip cartilage dissolution; = Waldenstrom’s disease) has a significantly worse prognosis.
