Prognosis
Usually, intestinal fistulas can be successfully treated with surgery. Fistulas that have developed in the course of an inflammation usually heal very well after the cause of the inflammation has been removed. In rare cases, however, a bowel fistula can persist for several years despite attempts at treatment or recur in chronic diseases such as Crohn’s disease.
