Prognosis | Fungal diseases

Prognosis

The prognosis for fungal diseases is in most cases extremely positive. Although it can often take some time until the symptoms disappear completely, permanent damage is rarely to be expected with nail or foot fungus and other superficial fungal diseases. However, therapy should be initiated quickly to prevent it from spreading to deeper tissues.

The prognosis of a systemic fungal disease is rather poor. Since the immune system is pre-damaged, the body can only fight the fungus with difficulty. Of course, the prognosis depends on the individual patient and the associated severity of the mycosis.

Prophylaxis

Simple measures often help to prevent fungal diseases. A good, but not excessive hygiene, plays an important role. One should also pay attention to well-groomed nails.

Shoes and socks should not be worn all day to let the foot breathe. In the swimming pool, slippers help to prevent athlete’s foot. In addition, it is always sensible to minimize your risk factors.

This includes a well adjusted diabetes mellitus and healthy nutrition. Against genital fungus one protects oneself effectively with condoms and not too often changing sexual partners. Despite all measures, however, fungal diseases cannot always be avoided.

It is difficult to prevent systemic mycosis, because the weakened immune system is the reason for the severe infection. It is sensible to avoid contact with people who suffer from fungal disease. A good therapy of the basic disease is essential here.
