Prognosis

As a rule, hemorrhoids can be treated very well and efficiently by medication or surgery. The earlier the hemorrhoids are treated, the easier and faster the therapy leads to improvement. However, patients with their symptoms are often reluctant to see a doctor, so most patients do not appear for examination until a relatively late stage.

After successful treatment of hemorrhoids, there can also be recurrences, i.e. the recurrence of hemorrhoids. After the surgical interventions, bleeding, wound infections and problems with urination may occur. In rare cases, the surgical procedure may result in anal stenosis (narrowing) or even impair the function of the anal sphincter muscle, which may require further surgical intervention to restore it.
