Prognosis

The prognosis of an inflammation of the coccyx depends largely on the underlying cause.A coccyx fistula, which leads to inflammation of the coccyx, usually has a good prognosis. After complete removal of the fistula tissue, the wound surface usually heals completely. Experience shows, however, that after a closed wound treatment, coccyx fistulas often reappear (so-called recurrence).
