Prognosis | Knee TEP symptoms/pain

Prognosis

Thanks to modern surgical procedures and various forms of total endoprostheses, which are specially selected for each patient, the prognosis after knee TEP surgery is very good. Thanks to a well staggered rehabilitation plan and numerous follow-up examinations, most patients regain the full load-bearing capacity of the knee joint without complications. Although it is not advisable to do all kinds of sports, patients with a knee TEP are not restricted in their everyday life if the course of the operation is good. Please also inform yourself about:

Sick leave

After a knee TEP has been inserted, patients are first taken off sick so that the body has sufficient time for rehabilitation. The 5-7-day stay in hospital and the subsequent 3-week inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation alone usually results in a sick note over this period. The total length of the sick leave depends on the individual patient’s progress in recovery and the profession.

Experience shows that patients who are mainly sedentary are on sick leave for shorter periods than people with physically active jobs. In any case, after a knee TEP the patient is usually reintegrated into work, whereby the patient does not work full-time directly, but is slowly brought back to full-time work.
