Prognosis

The prognosis of a mental disorder is quite variable, so it is difficult to give generally valid information. However, it is important to note that many mental disorders tend to become chronic if left untreated, and it is still estimated that only half of all disorders requiring treatment come into contact with help facilities at all. On the other hand, an optimal interplay of e.g. psychotherapy, drug therapy and psychosocial care of patients can often ensure good treatment success even in the case of severe mental disorders, which is often measured in terms of the reintegration of those affected into a regular daily routine and their ability to provide for themselves.
