Prognosis of low blood pressure

The Schellong test can give a first assessment of the cause of low blood pressure. Depending on the underlying cause, the prognosis may differ. If it is a simple orthostatic problem, i.e. a drop in blood pressure due to a change in position, it can often be treated quickly by changing behaviour and wearing compression stockings.

If there are other causes behind the low blood pressure, e.g. a decrease in heart function (cardiac insufficiency), the prognosis may be worse. Therefore, you should definitely consult your doctor if you often have symptoms that could indicate low blood pressure.
