Prognosis | Pain in the gums

Prognosis

Diseases that lead to pain in the gum area require urgent dental treatment. The reason for this is the fact that inflammatory processes within the oral cavity and their long-term consequences can negatively influence both facial aesthetics and chewing ability. In addition, bacteria that persist in large numbers in the oral cavity may enter the bloodstream and damage other organ systems.

Duration of gum pain

The duration of gum pain depends on the cause. If the pain is caused by gingivitis, it can subside after a few days, depending on the severity of the inflammation. However, if the inflammation can be described as chronic, i.e. already advanced, a treatment including healing can take a long time.

Since pain in the gums is usually based on an inflammation, the duration of the pain can be influenced by the extent of one’s own oral hygiene. If the cause of the pain lies in an incorrect brushing technique or in an injury/irritation of the gums, a quick healing can occur within a few days if suitable countermeasures are taken.
