Prognosis
If the inflammation of the periodontium is not yet so far advanced that there is a strong loosening, the prognosis and therapy of the inflammation of the tooth root is good. If the loosening is very severe, the tooth is lost. After a root tip resection the tooth can be preserved and therefore the prognosis is very good.
Summary
Inflammations at the root of the tooth affect either the periodontium or the jawbone at the tip of the root. They are consequences of periodontitis or caries. A therapy consists either in cleaning the gum pocket, an extraction or a root tip resection.
