Prognosis | Shoulder TEP pain

Prognosis

A shoulder TEP is used, for example, in patients with advanced shoulder joint arthrosis or rheumatoid arthritis and promises pain relief in these patient groups until they are free of symptoms. Although shoulder endoprostheses are constantly being further developed, there is no guarantee of final mobility after the operation. This can usually be improved in the subsequent physiotherapy, so that hardly any functional limitations remain. A shoulder TEP has a durability of about 15 to 20 years, after which it must be surgically replaced.

Sick leave

The hospital stay after a shoulder TEP is usually 10 to 12 days, after which an inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation usually begins, which takes 3 to 4 weeks. How long the patient is on sick leave depends on the profession and workload. An office job can be resumed after about 3 months, a job that requires the carrying of heavy loads may be resumed after 6 months at the earliest. If necessary, the working conditions must be adjusted in consultation with the attending physician.
