Prognosis | Therapy of a calcaneal fracture

Prognosis

The prognosis depends on the severity of the calcaneal fracture and its treatment. Surgical methods have slight advantages, but this is not generally true for all types of calcaneal fracture. Not to be neglected is the fact that due to the injury and surgery, the risk of the joint between the ankle and the calcaneus to develop arthrosis is very high.

Prophylaxis

Since a heel bone fracture is classically associated with an accident or direct force application, little prophylaxis can be taken here. One can only try to avoid putting too much strain on the heel bone and to take good care of the wound so that everything can heal completely. Special physiotherapy can also help to prevent possible post-traumatic arthrosis in the joint between the talus and heel bone.
