Prognosis | Thyroiditis

Prognosis

The prognosis of acute thyroiditis is good. With timely antibiotic therapy, the disease subsides without consequences within a few days. However, if the thyroid tissue is severely damaged, an underfunction may occur.

The subacute form should be treated with anti-inflammatory agents. In this way, the thyroiditis also heals without permanent damage within a few weeks to months. In individual cases, hypofunction develops, so that thyroid gland values should be checked once a year.
