Prognosis

Late sequelae due to whiplash are rather rare. Studies have shown that only a very small percentage of about 2 to 3% still have severe symptoms that prevent or severely impair them in their job two years after the injury. Thus, most patients can cope with whiplash trauma without any subsequent impairment.

However, since the neck pain is persistent for a certain period of time and also only slowly resolves. In a further study it was also confirmed that certain factors such as: prolong the healing process. As a rule, one assumes – for all degrees of severity of whiplash – a recovery time of about one month. In only about 10% of cases, the pain period extends over a period of about half a year.
