Prophylaxis

A torn ligament can be prevented to a certain extent by good training of the muscles, since trained muscles support the stabilizing function of the ligaments and can thus also absorb forces arriving at joints and ligaments. If a patient has already had a torn ligament, he or she can prophylactically contribute to additional joint stabilization during sports activities by using special bandages. Equilibrium and coordination exercises also help to train the muscles and balance and accidents are thus prevented.
