Prophylaxis

It is very difficult to prevent stomach cramps. In general, one should be careful to eat non-irritating food as much as possible (that means no food that is too fatty, no meals or drinks that are too hot or too cold, no or only little coffee and alcohol) and not to strain the stomach unnecessarily, for example by smoking or stress. It is best to take your food at fixed times and make sure you chew it sufficiently. The proverbs “This hits me in the stomach” or “I have to digest this first” do not come out of nowhere: stress and psychological problems even quite often manifest themselves first in the stomach area and should therefore be avoided especially by people with a sensitive stomach.

If special foods or ingredients are known to cause an allergy or intolerance, they should of course be removed from the diet as far as possible. In addition, care should be taken not to be too generous with painkillers, as these can cause various illnesses that lead to stomach cramps. Of course, this can be a vicious circle if you take painkillers because of severe stomach pain, which can only make the problem worse.

Therefore, it is always better to see a doctor too early than too late! Prognosis

The prognosis of the stomach cramps naturally depends on the disease that caused the stomach cramp. With an appropriate therapy of the underlying disease or by reducing stress and conflict situations, affected persons usually become completely free of symptoms again, whereby a predisposition to suffer from stomach cramps again as soon as the respective triggering factors return naturally remains. The list of diseases that can accompany stomach cramps is almost endless and ranges from completely harmless to acutely life-threatening.

However, stomach cramps can usually be a good judge of how bad the pain is, based on the strength, duration and frequency of the pain, and if the symptoms persist for a longer period of time or in case of doubt, you should consult a doctor. After appropriate examinations, the doctor will come to a preliminary suspicion with a therapy of the stomach cramps tailored to it. There is no standard therapy for the treatment of stomach cramps, it always depends on their origin. However, if the underlying disease is successfully treated, the problem with the stomach cramps will have been solved.
