Psoriatic Arthritis: Classification

The CASPAR criteria are used to classify psoriatic arthritis: Classification Criteria for the Diagnosis of Psoriatic Arthritis.

Psoriatic arthritis is considered diagnosed when there is inflammatory disease of joints, the spine, or the entheses (tendon attachments or sheaths) and three items also arise from the criteria listed below:

  • Or psoriasis in the family (family history; 1st or 2nd degree relatives).

  • Or psoriatic nail dystrophy (nail involvement).

Negative rheumatoid factor 1
History of dactylitis (finger and/or toe inflammation) or dactylitis documented by a physician 1
Radiological evidence of new bone formation of the hands and/or feet near the joint (no osteophyte/degenerative, structural changes in the form of bony spurs at the edge of the bone!) 1
