The following are the most important diseases or complications that can be caused by psoriatic arthritis:
Eyes and eye appendages (H00-H59).
Endocrine, nutritional, and metabolic diseases (E00-E90).
- Obesity (overweight)
- Diabetes mellitus type 2 (insulin resistance)
- Hyperlipidemia / dyslipidemia (lipid metabolism disorders).
Cardiovascular system (I00-I99)
- Acute coronary syndrome (AKS or. ACS, acute coronary syndrome; spectrum of cardiovascular disease ranging from unstable angina (iAP; UA; “chest tightness”; sudden onset of pain in the region of the heart with inconsistent symptoms) to the two main forms of myocardial infarction (heart attack), non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) and ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI)).
- Apoplexy (stroke)
- Hypertension (high blood pressure)
- Coronary artery disease (CAD; coronary artery disease).
Musculoskeletal system and connective tissue (M00-M99).
- Enthesitis (inflammation around the bony insertion sites of ligaments and tendons and joint capsules); prevalence (disease incidence) of 35% (281 of 803 patients); most common sites: Achilles tendon (24.2%), plantar fascia at calcaneus (20.8%), epicondyle humeri lateralis (17.2%).
Psyche – Nervous System (F00-F99; G00-G99).
- Depression – women with psoriasis (incidence 1.55% per year, in women without psoriasis 1.23%), especially if they also have psoriatic arthritis (incidence 2.02% per year)
Prognostic factors
- Overweight (obesity) increases the disease activity of psoriasis.
