Psoriatic Arthritis: Secondary Diseases

The following are the most important diseases or complications that can be caused by psoriatic arthritis:

Eyes and eye appendages (H00-H59).

Endocrine, nutritional, and metabolic diseases (E00-E90).

  • Obesity (overweight)
  • Diabetes mellitus type 2 (insulin resistance)
  • Hyperlipidemia / dyslipidemia (lipid metabolism disorders).

Cardiovascular system (I00-I99)

  • Acute coronary syndrome (AKS or. ACS, acute coronary syndrome; spectrum of cardiovascular disease ranging from unstable angina (iAP; UA; “chest tightness”; sudden onset of pain in the region of the heart with inconsistent symptoms) to the two main forms of myocardial infarction (heart attack), non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) and ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI)).
  • Apoplexy (stroke)
  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Coronary artery disease (CAD; coronary artery disease).

Musculoskeletal system and connective tissue (M00-M99).

  • Enthesitis (inflammation around the bony insertion sites of ligaments and tendons and joint capsules); prevalence (disease incidence) of 35% (281 of 803 patients); most common sites: Achilles tendon (24.2%), plantar fascia at calcaneus (20.8%), epicondyle humeri lateralis (17.2%).
