Furthermore, the plant is used in diseases where soft stool and easier emptying of the intestine are desired, such as hemorrhoids, diverticulosis (small protrusions of the intestinal wall), anal fissures (painful tears of the skin and mucous membrane of the anus), after surgery on the rectum and / or anal area, in the presence of an artificial anus and during pregnancy.

Psyllium can also be used to treat diarrhea of various origins, Crohn’s disease (chronic inflammatory bowel disease) and irritable bowel syndrome.

Scientifically proven is also the supportive intake of psyllium in diabetes mellitus and high blood lipid levels (hyperlipidemia).

Psyllium in folk medicine and homeopathy.

In Central Europe, psyllium seeds are relatively rarely used as a mild laxative and dietary fiber for chronic constipation. The drug is also used for diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, and other inflammatory bowel diseases.

Homeopathic use is broadly equivalent to the officinal use of psyllium.
