Pulling in the chest while breathing

However, strong pulling in the chest can also be due to internal diseases. Particularly in the case of pulling in the chest, which occurs during breathing, a doctor should be consulted promptly and comprehensive diagnostics should be initiated. If the pulling in the chest occurs mainly when breathing, this can have a variety of causes.

Above all, tension in the muscles around the rib cage can lead to pulling or pain in the chest due to a strong stretching, for example when breathing. In addition, inflammatory processes in the lung area are among the most common causes of the occurrence of strong pulling in the chest, which increases in intensity especially when breathing. Diseases of the heart usually lead to pain that is located directly behind the breastbone.

Under certain circumstances, such as in the case of a heart attack, this pain can radiate into the left shoulder, left arm, neck and/or left angle of the jaw. In addition to diseases of the lungs or heart, impairment of the ribs when breathing can also lead to severe pulling in the chest. Especially contusions and fractures of the bony thorax can cause such symptoms.

Pulling in the breast during menstruation

Many women suffer from pain or a strong pulling in the breast before, during or even after their period. The intensity of the symptoms can vary greatly from woman to woman. The reason for the occurrence of pulling in the breast before, during or after the period is cycle-related hormonal fluctuations. While the menstrual cycle within the first 12 to 14 days is mainly regulated by estrogens, the concentration of the hormone progesterone increases significantly in the second half of the cycle.

These hormonal fluctuations can lead to increased fluid retention (edema) in the area of the breasts a few days before the start of bleeding and during menstruation. This often results in a strong pulling or even pain in the affected breast. If a strong pulling in the breast occurs before or during the period, this symptom is often accompanied by other premenstrual complaints.

In the case of breast complaints that can be attributed to hormonal fluctuations, the affected women typically suffer from additional fatigue/weariness, mood swings and/or abdominal pain. Since the progesterone concentration in the blood drops rapidly after the onset of menstruation, such complaints can also occur after the period. Affected women can often be helped by stabilizing their menstrual cycle. Hormonal contraceptives can help to alleviate the symptoms, especially in young girls who suffer from severe pulling or pain in the breasts before, during or after their period.
