Rabies: Examination

A comprehensive clinical examination is the basis for selecting further diagnostic steps:

  • General physical examination – including blood pressure, pulse, body weight, height; further:
    • Inspection (viewing).
      • Skin, mucous membranes and sclerae (white part of the eye).
    • Inspection of the wound [local reactions at the bite wound such as itching, burning, increased sensitivity to pain].
  • Neurological examination – including reflex testing, assessment of muscle strength, etc. [spasms of the muscles of the extremities or trunk?, spasms of the pharynx with severe salivation?]

Square brackets [ ] indicate possible pathological (pathological) physical findings.
