Radiation Enteritis: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of radiation enteritis (radiation disease of the small intestine).

Family history

  • Is there a frequent history of gastrointestinal tract disease in your family?

Social history

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Have you noticed any gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea?
  • Do you have flatulence or intestinal cramps?
  • Are there any abnormalities in bowel movements? Frequency, quantity, appearance, admixtures?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • Do you have an appetite?
  • Do you eat a balanced and regular diet?
  • Have you lost body weight unintentionally?

Self history including medication history.

  • Pre-existing conditions (gastrointestinal diseases).
  • Operations
  • Radiotherapy
  • Allergies
  • Medication history (chemotherapy, if applicable).
