Raising children – You should know that!

Definition

The education is a support, encouragement and pedagogical influence on the development on the behavior of the growing up person. Education includes the totality of all educational activities, such as personality development, learning of social behavior, embedding in the cultural rules and norms, etc. Education takes place in all cultures and societies.

Education can and should take place from very different sides. First and foremost the family, i.e. parents, grandparents, etc. In addition, the kindergarten, the school and other public institutions take over a part of the education.

Each parent educates his or her child differently, the respective upbringing depends on what the parents were influenced by in their childhood and what experiences they have made in their lives. Education by public persons, such as teachers, is usually provided by pedagogues who are trained in the field of education. The general goal of education is to prepare the adolescent to live an independent and self-reliant life in society, so that he or she is able to cope with the daily challenges of life and to behave in a manner appropriate to the situation.

What are the means of education?

Educational means are actions or reactions of the educator to a behavior of the child, with the goal of influencing the child and leading it to an educational goal. The educator influences the child and can thus consolidate or change the child’s behavior. The means of education are praise, rebuke, reminder, admonition or punishment etc.

The praise or reward confirms and strengthens the child’s behavior and thus also its self-confidence. As a result, the child shows the desired behavior more often and with pleasure. This is a positive means of education.

Likewise, encouragement as a means of education has a positive effect on the child’s self-confidence and confirms and encourages. Negative means of education such as reprimand, admonition or punishment should lead to the fact that the child no longer shows a behavior or changes it, since on the part of the educator a negative consequence follows on its behavior. In addition, situations in which someone acts as a role model or in which playing, working or speaking is done count as a means of education. However, these are not regarded as a direct means of education, whereby the adult acts directly on the child, but as an indirect means of education. As a result, the educator is not always aware of his or her effect on the child.
