Ranitic®

Ranitic® is a partially prescription drug containing Ranitidine as the active ingredient. The drug is a histamine H2-receptor blocker and is prescribed for symptoms such as heartburn. Ranitic® is available in film-coated tablets containing either 75mg, 150mg, or 300mg Ranitidine.

Prescription is only required for those packages containing 150mg or 300mg of the active ingredient Ranitidine. The 75mg pack is available without prescription from pharmacies for people over 16 years of age, as long as the pack does not exceed the active ingredient quantity of 1050mg and the therapy is limited to 14 days. However, the prescription-free status only applies as long as Ranitic® is taken for the application area “heartburn and/or acidic belching”.

Mode of action

Ranitic® acts on the receptor-mediated release of stomach acid and blocks it. The tissue hormone histamine is responsible for a number of processes in the human body. One of the tasks of histamine is the increased secretion of gastric acid. There are some diseases that can be effectively treated by reducing the amount of gastric acid that is secreted daily. Ranitic® is a powerful drug to effectively treat these diseases.

Application areas

Depending on the disease, Ranitic® is prescribed with different amounts of active ingredients. The pack with 75mg active ingredient content can be used for short treatment of diseases such as heartburn or acidic belching. For persons over 16 years of age, the use of Ranitic® in this amount of active ingredient is prescription-free for a period of no more than 14 days.

The packs of Ranitic® with the active substance quantities of 150mg and 300mg are also prescribed for diseases in which an increased amount of stomach acid is the cause of the development. Thus Ranitic® 150mg as well as Ranitic® 300mg can be successfully used for the treatment of ulcers in the duodenum, as well as ulcers in the stomach. Ranitic® is also successfully used in the treatment of inflammation of the esophagus (reflux esophagitis).
