Recovery time from a bruise in the knee

Smaller hematomas can be easily observed in their course by the colours they take on. From the moment of its formation until the swelling has completely subsided, it takes up to two weeks. Larger bruises, especially after operations, can last for weeks.

A doctor should be consulted to decide on the treatment. Some haematomas do not dissolve on their own. These are also known as organised haematomas.

In this case the doctor should perform a puncture, lay a drainage or remove the effusion surgically. With such large bruises, complete healing can take weeks to months, depending on how it progresses.
