Rehab/Exercises

During rehabilitation measures after an ankle fracture, there are a variety of exercises designed to restore the stability, mobility, strength and coordination of the foot after the ankle fracture. Some of these exercises are described below. Mobilization The exercise is performed on the tilting board.

Sit on a chair and place the injured foot on the tilt board in front of you. Now move the tilt board with your foot to the left and right but only so far that the movement does not cause any pain. Later on, this exercise can also be done standing up, with the healthy leg on the floor.

Mobility For this exercise, sit on a table or similar. so that your feet dangle freely in the air. Now draw the alphabet or a row of numbers in the air with the damaged foot.

Again, make sure that the movements do not cause pain. Stability Stand up straight and upright. Your legs are shoulder width apart and your feet are completely on the ground.

Now slowly bend your knees but make sure that your heels stay in contact with the floor. Walk only as low as you can without pain. To increase the intensity of this exercise, you can also do it on the tilt board, which also improves coordination and balance.

For this exercise, sit in the middle of a gymnastics ball and place the injured leg on the floor in front of the ball so that the knee points forward. Now roll slowly forward on the gym ball so that the load is on the operated leg. Make sure that the knee does not extend beyond the tip of the foot and that your entire foot remains in contact with the floor.

Strengthening the muscles For this exercise, stand on a step of stairs so that your heels are floating in the air. Now press up into the tips of your toes and then lower your heel again slowly and in a controlled manner. 20 repetitions. In the further course this exercise can also be done on one leg.More exercises can be found in the articles:
