A comprehensive clinical examination is the basis for selecting further diagnostic steps:
- General physical examination – including blood pressure, pulse, body temperature, body weight, body height; further:
- Inspection (viewing).
- Skin, mucous membranes, and sclerae (white part of the eye) [jaundice (jaundice); exanthema (rash): usually petechial (pinpoint skin bleeding)]
- Auscultation (listening) of the heart.
- Auscultation of the lungs [possible sequelae: bronchopneumonia (course form of pneumonia / pneumonia, in which the inflammation affects the surroundings of bronchi in a focal form)]
- Palpation (palpation) of the abdomen (abdomen), etc. [Hepatosplenomegaly (enlargement of the liver and spleen)]
- Inspection (viewing).
- Neurological examination – including reflex testing, strength testing.
