Respiratory Acidosis: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of respiratory (breathing-related) acidosis.

Family history

Social history

  • Is there any evidence of psychosocial stress or strain due to your family situation?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Are your lips discolored to a bluish color?
  • Is your face reddish in color?
  • Do you have the feeling of shortness of breath?*
  • Do you feel a pulse that is too fast?*
  • Do you suffer from impaired consciousness, confusion?

Vegetative anamnesis including nutritional anamnesis.

  • Are you overweight? Please tell us your body weight (in kg) and height (in cm).
  • Have you noticed an unwanted change in weight?
  • Has there been any change in your appetite?
  • Have you noticed any changes in digestion and/or water excretion?
  • Do you suffer from sleep disturbances?

  • Do you drink alcohol? If yes, what drink(s) and how many glasses per day?
  • Do you use drugs? If yes, what drugs (opiates) and how often per day or per week?
