Restlessness and insomnia in the first trimester

The foetus has already visibly increased in size in the 2nd Trimenon and has made room for itself. Here, it can come to shifts of the stomach-organs of the mother. First false strains, which are caused, among other things, by the changed weight of the mother, can lead to muscular pain even at night and thus not let the pregnant woman sleep.

In this phase of pregnancy, more attention should be paid to blood pressure values and the thyroid gland should also be examined, since high blood pressure values and/or hyperthyroidism can cause severe restlessness and sleep disturbances. The child has increased in size so much in the last part of the pregnancy that it can also press on the mother’s vena cava (“vena cava compression syndrome”). The pressure is most likely to be triggered while lying on the back, i.e. mostly at night, and leads to a temporary undersupply of the mother.

Sudden frightening leads to restless sleep, as the mother has to change her position constantly. In the last stage of pregnancy, renewed psychosomatic causes also lead to restlessness and insomnia. Because often excitement and anticipation before the upcoming birth determine the woman’s everyday life.
